Lately I have been finding myself ruminating about all the platforms I am posting on and if I really make an impact. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t look for external validation, but lately I have received a lot of cute comments from my students that thanked me for being their teacher and I wondered at the same time if in the social media world my footprints are even seen.
As I sat and pondered about my own life it suddenly struck me. No matter on which platform I am posting, it is all just a big classroom. Everyone is just sitting there, minding their own business, scrolling on their phones, chatting with their neighbours, doodling or staring into the sky. They are trying to find out who is the best, the coolest, the hottest, the smartest, lost in the comparison as they have learned that they are only loved when they have achieved something. However, there is this one student, or maybe two, who pretend not to listen so that they still look cool, but in reality they are soaking up every little word you are saying. You can tell because you see their progress, you see them changing bit by bit, growing like a little plant. You see tiny reactions in their faces, as you quote a motivational speaker or you feel their energy shifting when you share your wisdom about the secrets of life. You almost see them receiving your words, as they are catching them out of the sweaty air and putting them carefully away in the pockets of their mind. In class I always focused on these students, especially when I felt that I wasn’t making enough of an impact. I don’t see people’s faces when I am posting on different platforms. Yet, I can feel their energy.
There is a reason why Martin Luther King’s speech has become famous. People are listening to John Lennon’s “Imagine” all over the world, because they are yearning for the love that is transported in those messages. Everyone is longing for this feeling of home, that fills our body with warmth, a peaceful calm feeling, that wraps us in its motherly arms and cradles us to our grave. We are all students of Love at this wonderful, incredible earth school. Our souls are here to be united in oneness, all the while having fun on the way. “I just want you to be happy” is the wish that all parents have for their children, that all teachers have for their students. Yet, we think we know what is best for them when we don’t even know how to be happy ourselves. Happiness, joy and love are states that we are already in, we just don’t allow ourselves to dive into these vibrations fully as we are trained to struggle, compete and survive.
The most important lesson I learned on my journey in our current school system here as humans is that it wasn’t my words that taught the kids. It wasn’t my wisdom. It was me embodying what I wanted them to learn. It was me, showing up as love, every day.
Robert Holden states that “Love is a state of being; it is not a thing to give away.” He also states that if we let love show us how to love, Love will show us the way. Love is our true teacher.
“To find the beloved, you must become the beloved”.
Rumi
When we want to find love, we need to become it first. Looking for love is painful as we are then focusing on the lack of it. Thus, looking for people to react to my posts on different platforms is painful as the lack is thus becoming very obvious. The true joy lies in creating our content, doesn’t it? Yet, the ego wants to get acknowledged and feel like we are making an impact. “What am I doing this for?” is a wonderful question, as it highlights that something is not in balance. Maybe we are trying too hard to be seen. Maybe we are waiting for a post to go viral although we secretly fear all the attention. Maybe we are just posting because we think people need to be fixed. Or do we want people to learn about what we know so that in the end we won’t feel lonely and won’t be perceived as weird in our way of living? There are so many reasons why we might be doing what we are doing. Sitting down and asking ourselves the question: “What for?”, can actually be healing and help us to refocus on the things that truly matter to us.
Every step on our journey when made in love is leading towards the love we already are. An algorithm is a series of steps that lead to the solution of a problem. It is a standardized procedure that contains many steps to get to a certain outcome. Math has always been a riddle to me. I started to struggle at school at an early age especially with mental arithmetic. I guess I always preferred mystery to mastery and numbers were just too predictable for me. The word logic derives from the Greek word “logos” and old French “logique”, which means to distinguish true from false reasoning. As a spiritual being I have learned that there are some things in life that we can’t grasp with our minds, things that need to be felt with our whole being. I have learned from Rumi that beyond right or wrong there is a field. A field where wild roses grow and dip the world in pink shades. A field where right or wrong doesn’t exist and judgement ceases to be. After I caught myself searching for the signs that my posts are actually recognized, I pivoted my view towards spirituality and a few questions arose.
Can the Law Of Attraction overcome the algorithm of social media platforms?
Can love go viral on platforms that a society, focused on achievement, consumerism and comparison has created?
Does love have her own algorithm?
When I ask big questions I always look at nature. This morning I watched the bees and bumblebees dancing from flower to flower, bouncing up and down as they spread love and at the same time nourished themselves. The trees just let their seeds fall to the earth. They let bees coincidentally carry their seeds while providing them with the sweet nectar of life. The trees can’t control which bee takes their seed. They can’t control where the bees will fly to. The trees can’t even control if their seeds will start to grow or dry up before the moist rain tickles them out of bed. Us writers are like trees.
We can’t control how our words will be perceived. If we publish a book we do not know if someone will read it. Some people may just buy it and put it onto the shelf for it to be forgotten in the chaos of life. If we hold on to our words they will never be able to pollinate other flowers. Words are energy, thus we need to free this energy and let it fly with the winds. Then we can sit and let the tender fingertips of the sun brush over our faces. We can just be ourselves and let Love be our teacher. Our words don’t need to teach others. Our words need to love others and be felt. So I will relax, sit still and let my heart be taught by the greatest masters of all. From now on I’ll sing my song in sync with the “Algorhythm Of Love”.
*The Algorhythm Of Love*
Love
is not a series
of little steps
it is an opening
through a thousand doors
through mystery
and glowing souls
filling rivers, cups
and bowls
up to the brim
towards the
overflow
of peace and bliss
she is
and endless grow
she’s not the how
she is the why
her kiss
is gentle
never shy
she doesn’t impose
or lecture minds
she opens hearts
helps us unwind
the web of logic
to pathos she guides
she asks us to open
our hearts oh so wide
for we are the love
that we carry inside
she begs us to just
flow along with her tide
she doesn’t teach steps
she’s spiralling up
swirling us round
never needing to stop
she’s light and she’s ease
she’s joy and she’s home
she’s always there
never leaving us
alone.
So let’s dance
to the sounds of the song
that love is singing
right where we belong
let us shake
let us break
let us cry
let us follow her
to a land
undreamed of
let us get caught
in the algorhythm
of love.
